The Guthrie Brothers
For brothers Devin and Dillon Guthrie, being part of the All-In Milwaukee program has been an enriching experience. After graduating from Rufus King High School, both brothers knew they wanted to pursue higher education with the support of AIM.
Devin was accepted into the program in 2022 and is studying Environmental Science at UW-Madison and Dillon is just starting his first year at UWMilwaukee, studying Computer Science. “Seeing how helpful the program was for Devin made me even more excited to join,” Dillon reflects. “Now that we’re both in it together, it feels great!”
Being the older brother, Devin acknowledges that “it’s been interesting because now more people recognize me as his brother and vice versa. It creates more connection within the program, and I get to hear about what his class is doing and how AIM is growing and changing.”
Supporting Each Other Through College Life
Transitioning to a first-year college student can be challenging, and Dillon appreciates his brother’s guidance. “Since we’re both STEM students, Devin was my first reference for how to make the most of campus life. His advice definitely made things easier.”
The supportive dynamic between the brothers keeps them close are they each navigate their college journeys. “As the older brother, I’ve been able to answer Dillon’s questions about college life and give advice,” Devin says. “We’re in different majors— he’s studying computer science, and I’m focused on environmental science—so we can’t help each other with coursework, but AIM provides resources that support us both.”v
Impact on Family & Community
For Dillon, the AIM community on campus has made college more approachable. “Being part of a support system of people in the same position has given me the confidence to do more than I thought I could. AIM will definitely be a first choice for our younger brother.”
As well as having a presence on campus, AIM strives to support scholars through their entire journey, something Devin is thankful for. “AIM has lowered the cost of college, allowing us to focus more on our education. I’ve been able to help expand environmental opportunities in the program, while Dillon landed an internship at Northwestern Mutual, where he now has a student job.”
What's Next?
Devin and Dillon Guthrie are both expected to graduate through the All-In Milwaukee program with little to no debt and join the Wisconsin workforce. Devin is on track to graduate from UW-Madison in May of 2026 with his environmental science degree. During the summer of 2024, he was a horticultural intern at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens. This experience solidified his major and love for environmental science. Dillon is on track to graduate from UWM with his computer science degree in May of 2028. He is already working at Northwestern Mutual utilizing his knowledge from his computer science courses. It is a return on investment for Northwestern Mutual, since Dillon is one of the scholars that they are investing in through the All-In Milwaukee program.
